Two Ways to Take the Exam

The Arizona food manager exam is available in two formats: online proctoring and in-person testing. Proctoring fees are included in the price of the exam, so you can choose the option that works best for you.

How Does the Online Exam Work?

If you'd rather skip a trip to a testing facility, remote proctoring lets you complete the exam from home. Because the assessment must be supervised, an approved proctor will monitor the session virtually from start to finish.

Before scheduling an online test, make sure you meet the following eligibility requirements.

Become a Food Safety Manager in Arizona Today

Food businesses across Arizona are held to strict public health standards designed to reduce contamination risks and prevent foodborne illness. One of the most effective ways to demonstrate compliance is by having a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) on staff.

If you supervise employees, oversee kitchen operations or direct sanitation procedures, completing a recognized food safety course and passing an accredited exam can help you meet local requirements and strengthen daily operations.

eFoodcard makes it easy to get certified. Our ANAB-accredited exam is accepted statewide and can be taken either online or at a testing center. The price includes all required proctoring fees, so there are no surprise costs.

For additional preparation, we offer an exam and training package. The bundle includes a Food Manager Handbook, a study guide and unlimited practice tests — a $39 value!

Why It Matters

Arizona food establishments must follow strict public health regulations to reduce contamination risks and help prevent foodborne illness. Certified supervisors can reduce safety risks by implementing consistent procedures and reinforcing proper handling practices throughout the workplace.

Having this credential demonstrates that you have the skills to manage a clean, safe and professional food establishment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all AZ food establishments require this certification?

No. Rules vary by county. Many jurisdictions require at least one CFPM for establishments that prepare or serve higher-risk foods, while some lower-risk operations may be exempt. Always verify local requirements with your county health department.

How long is my certificate valid for?

Your ANAB-accredited credential is valid for five years and must be renewed before it expires to remain active.

Can I complete the certification process online?

Yes. We offer both in-person and remote-proctored testing. If you choose to test online, make sure your device meets all technical requirements.

What happens if I don't pass the exam?

You can retake the exam if you do not pass on your first attempt. Arizona does not set a statewide limit on retakes. However, you will need to repurchase the exam and pay all applicable fees.

Is there a waiting period to retest?

You must wait at least 24 hours before retesting. You will need to repurchase the exam with each subsequent retake.

How much does it cost to get certified?

Costs vary by provider, package and whether you test online or in a classroom setting. You can save by opting for our course and exam bundle. The package includes a study guide, unlimited practice tests and a Food Manager Handbook so you can prepare for the official exam.

How quickly will I receive my certificate after passing the food safety manager exam?

You can download your certificate immediately upon passing and print additional copies anytime.

Is a food handler card the same as a CFPM credential?

No. The handler card is meant for frontline employees who prepare, serve or handle food. The CFPM credential is designed for supervisors who are responsible for overseeing the establishment's food safety practices, staff training and regulatory compliance.

Is training required before taking the exam?

No. However, completing a training program first is strongly advised because it helps you learn the concepts covered on the test.

How long does it take to complete the course?

The training program takes approximately eight hours to finish. The course is self-paced, so you can pause and resume as often as needed.

Do you offer discounts for group orders?

Yes. Volume-based discounts are available for bulk training purchases.
